Blue is the new green

Bollore Bluecar

Specialist international delivery company C4 Logistics is providing a crucial European supply chain link for the Bolloré Bluecar, the electric vehicle at the forefront of rolling out green technology across France.

The Bolloré Bluecar, a 100% electric car that runs off a 30kWh Lithium Metal Polymer (LMP) battery, was one of the first European vehicles to be deployed as part of the Paris Autolib car-sharing scheme to halt congestion and harmful CO2 around the French capital.

Production of the vehicle, which has a range of 250 km and is also sold for €12,000 (with purchasers also required to rent the batteries for €79 per month), has increased following the company’s €150 million commitment to roll out an electric car charging network across the whole of France.

Bluecar has assembly plants in France and Italy but its tier one suppliers are Europe-wide, a factor that requires a sophisticated continental supply chain. This is co-ordinated by C4 Logistics, which has recently launched a unique track and trace technology that matches a consignment’s progress to a driver’s smartphone; with the potential to save its high-end customers millions of euro in preventable delays.

C4 Logistics manages the relationships between Bolloré and its suppliers, collecting from manufacturers in Germany and Poland and shipping by road to the Bluecar production line in Bairo, Italy, for example.

Sebastien Barth, managing director of C4 Logistics, said:

“Bluecar is a fantastic European success story which requires agility across a number of suppliers and countries. The customer has access to our track and trace and email alerts so that they have a complete picture of where their consignments are at all times, allowing them to plan production accordingly.

We work in the industries with the most exacting standards to deliver time-critical logistics. Our clients need to be reassured every step of the way that delays are not going to cost them in terms of time, medical emergency priority or money.

Operating in an ‘asset-light’ 4PL (4th party logistics) world where our customers rely upon peace of mind and an end-to-end picture of the journey, our track and trace GPS provides traffic dependent, ETA updates and total supply chain transparency, with money back guarantees if we fail to make the delivery through reasons within our control.”
